thrift day

I've been trying to get more work done, on the site and off. Unfortunately, that means I sometimes forget to photograph my outfits and makeup until it's late and my face is shiny and my outfit, disheveled. This outfit is actually from a few days ago, when we went thrifting and made a stop at Lane's apartment, in Bushwick.

This was taken in the basement (where they keep the many cute things!) of the thrift store.

A poorly composed picture of my butterfly necklace and a surprise attack from Vester!

Outfit details:
Grey tri-blend deep v - American Apparel (borrowed from Bobby)
black cami - $2 or $3 at f21
vintage necklace - from my mom
thrifted belt - I think it was $1
what I can only assume was a square dancer's skirt - beacon's closet, $10
textured tights - $1 on sale at Gap
trouser socks - from my mom
granny boots - beacon's closet, $15
vintage crocheted gloves - $5 at a flea market (tags still attached! until I took them off)

Back to work!

  1. You look lovely! The necklace is gorgeous, and I love the grey and purple together.

And Vester is pretty cute too. :)

  2. have you found any cool thrift stores in brooklyn besides beacon's closet and/or buffalo exchange? please share if you have. i miss suburban thrifting (i'm from georgia) and am sick of the designer/vintage stuff in the city that passes for "thrifting" when it's not affordable to shop at these places at all.

  3. p.s. i don't mean that beacon's is unaffordable, but was talking more about the east village places i've unsuccessfully tried to hit up.

  4. Farah - There are scads of Salvation Army stores scattered across Brooklyn. They're definitely hit or miss, but Wednesday is family day, which means all clothing is 50% off (except whatever the newest tag is). You're welcome to join Bobby and me any time!

  5. I'm very curious and I'm sure you've answered this before, but what kind of camera do you use Keiko?

  6. It's a nikon d50. It has been discontinued but the d40 is comparable. The lens I use for the outfit pictures (and basically anything except portraits) is the nikkor 18-55mm, and it's crap, because I dropped it:/ The other is the nikkor 1.8f 50mm lens.

  7. Love all the grey and black with some standout color.

  8. I had a mini heart attack when I saw this post (a good one). My grandmother gave me a necklace many moons ago that looks eerily similar to yours! Sadly, I left it at her home after a visit (she lived in Tofino, B.C.) and while packing boxes after she passed away, I cannot find it again!

Oh, sweet memories. And it warms to my heart to see a necklace that reminds me of my dear, dear grandmother.

  9. This is such a beautiful blog! What absolutely gorgeous pictures :)

  10. I love this outfit; it's perfectly vintage.

  11. I just discovered your blog today! You are so inspirational! Definitely adding you to my BlogLovin!

  12. What a fantastic and colorful blog,
your outfits and makeup are quite inspirational.
~I added you to my list of blogs to visit.
