There's so much more to life than fashion and beauty - but it's the pretty packaging that makes life's shortcomings a little more bearable. When I allow myself to laze around, drawn and weary in last night's pajamas, everything feels so heavy. A shower, nice outfit and a little bit of makeup is a physical pick-me-up that in turn directly affects my mood. I'm the first to admit that a great deal of narcissism and self-indulgence goes into maintaining a personal style blog. I could just as easily snap dressform photographs of my daily outfits, but instead I choose to wear them and model them in my own environment. It's an extra dose of that same pick-me-up I mentioned before - and unlike a glimpse in the mirror, I'm able to choose exactly which representation to put on display (let's just be honest about that).
I guess my blog has become mostly about style, but I want to maintain the personal aspect as well. Whether or not the smoke and mirrors enhance my own mood, there is still so much more beneath the surface and behind the scenes: my friends and family, love and laughter. Heartache, anecdotes and random musings. I enjoy sharing little pieces of my life with you, and receiving your own stories (and pictures!) in return.
Reading your comments and feedback (whether full of praise or criticism) is encouraging; it gives me a sense of relevance even on the most humdrum of days. I don't always have time to respond to every single comment, since I still maintain a full time career of being an old lady who is attached to her sewing machine. However, I want you all to know how much your presence (and readership) is appreciated. The support I receive on a daily basis is nothing short of incredible. This blog would just be a personal diary, if not for my audience. That is never lost on me.
Love love and forever gratitude,
Keiko Lynn
I like the honesty of this post, and always enjoy reading your blog. :)
ReplyDeleteand: pretty dress! I love lace dresses lately.
Adorable dress! And as usuall you look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is absolutely lovely! I think it is my favorite Postlaparia dress yet.
ReplyDeleteI adore this dress, it's gorgeous :) That's what I love about your blog, it's so real and you're always so honest about your life, yet so chic at the same time :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. I like it even more when it is personal. It makes me feel like I actually know you (does that sound weird?).
ReplyDeleteI love your meaningful blog posts.
ReplyDeleteAdorable dress :)

agreed 100% with Rebecca on this one. I love this dress so much! The eyelets, sweetheart neckline and empire waist. it's right up my alley!
ReplyDeletethank you for your honesty. the fact that I can relate to so much of what you share with your readers in this blog makes me come back day in and day out. :)
I always find your blog to be so refreshingly real. I am always touched by your honesty about your own life.
ReplyDeleteIt's just and added bonus that you have wonderful style that we all get to share in as well.
While it seems like bloggers these days are so quick to "sell out" and become this major personalized brand that somewhat loses the meaning of the blog and why it initially drew readers in the first place, I feel like you've successfully managed both. You're running your own business and yet you keep the blog about you, not about the brand of the week or what you're trying to sell us next.
ReplyDeleteI very much appreciate that you appreciate your readers, and that you've shared so much of your life with us. I'm trying to upstart my own blog/business (not so much fashion, but other crafty things) and you're one of the truly inspiring bloggers out there.
<3 Liz
P.S. That dress jaw-dropping. Seriously love it - you should sew some up for the shop!!!
Beautiful dress! You look so lovely. Is your post title from the Ray LaMontagne song? lol that is what I thought of when I read it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love love this dress! It's so very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree! : )
ReplyDeleteit always makes me feel better to be dressed, even at home.
I love all of your Postlapsaria dresses, but they all seem to be the same length - and they're pretty short.
Just wondering if you make any longer ones?
xo
you sewed that dress? WOW! i heart it. i'm a sucker for lace and i feel that it makes any girl instantly even more girly...thanks for the nice entry post. thank you again for letting me sponsor your blog. i've been getting a lot of hits through your blog...:) keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeletethat is such a beautiful dress! I love that you always have something personal to share with us Keiko, it being a small detail or something very tragic that we the readers can relate to and that is something that keeps me coming back for more.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more about your post. I feel exactly the same way about my own style blog.

And yes that dress is STUNNING!
ReplyDeletei've been lurking on your blog for a while now. when i was sick with the flu i would stay in bed and just read your blog ( not to sound creepy, i promise!) you just seem so sweet and i love your style. your new dress is absolutely lovely! :]
ReplyDeletethank you for having a great blog!
Thanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteJodie: If there is a particular dress you want made to order, I accommodate special requests in terms of length, colors, etc. :)
Tailoverteakettle: That is my goal! I decided to take on sponsors because blogging does take up a lot of time that I should be working, but I don't want this to turn into a false representation of myself. I will only wear or feature things that I truly love. Thank you!
Sara Lynn: Yes! Haha, that song always cheers me up.
You're amazing. I've been following you since LiveJournal days and have always enjoyed your posts because they're fun and honest. You share your personal life, as well as your style, with the world, and I thank you for that because most bloggers don't care to.
ReplyDeleteIn honor of honesty: I'm totally new to your blog! A friend of mine turned me on to your blog recently because she thought you were "totally my style"... She was right in more ways than one! I love your honesty and uuum... I LUV that dress! 8) Great job.. Keep up the good work - You've got a new fan!
ReplyDeleteaw. It makes me very happy and appreciative to read about bloggers like you, who take the time to appreciate their craft and the readers too. <3
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress ... I love your blog, you're so candid and seem like a really sweet person.

I always look forward to your posts. I've not fully embraced the fashion world yet, but am consistently inspired by your honesty and modesty.
ReplyDeleteI worry, though, because you've not mentioned anything about Bobby. I hope he is still in your life - the pictures of you two together are, for me, the most beautiful.
Bazinga! What a great outfit, and a great post too, I agree entirely.
ReplyDeleteI find that I really enjoy looking at people's style blogs like your own and I like doing my own too - but I find I have quite a bit of trouble with the narcissistic side of it, I'm just not used to taking photos of myself and showing off my style! Haha, but it is fun and does make you feel good!
Kipuka: Don't worry, Bobby is still very much a part of my life. He's currently in front of me and Kim, making excuses as to why he hasn't called the landlord to tell him our toilet is on the fritz. haha
ReplyDeletethat dress is absolutely lovely! You inspire me to believe that someday I too can make a living sewing beautiful things for lovely people. Thank you for all your honest posts and positivity. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteYou're just such a beautiful person, inside and out :) Reading your blog is always a pleasure.
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic in this outfit, too!
Love your blog ! You are very talented. I wish I could sew. I have a sewing machine but no one to teach me. I will have to take a sewing class.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing not just your amazing personal style but your heart-warming personal stories as well...
ReplyDelete♥ vanilla ice cream ♥

ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress, per usual. Your posts are always so down to earth and thoughtful. :D
ReplyDeleteyou're one of the few select bloggers that i wish i knew in real life... ;) you're so genuine and refreshing and honest and i love that - there are a lot of style bloggers i stay away from because they seem so fake to me, but i have never once felt that coming here, to your space. always stay true to who you are, keiko, because who you are is beautiful. <3
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I was thinking the same thing as Kipuka. You were posting about emotions and feeling bad. And I always fear the worst for others when it comes to relationships. I'm really glad that everything is okay with you guys.

ReplyDeleteheart,
Betty Noir
Your blog is fabulous, and always provides heartfelt commentary on life which, as a reader, I find most appealing. Even when you post "simple" outfit posts - there is always some whimsy or personal thought which makes your blog so very approachable.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note: Would you mind sharing what lipstick you are wearing in that last photo?
liz took the words right out of my mouth. You are special Keiko. You are extremely talented, you have amazing style and you look beautiful but you are beautiful on the inside too and that shines through on your blog. That's why I follow you. Always be yourself :)

This dress is gorgeous! You're handmade items are always sooo fabulous! :)
ReplyDeleteKeiko, as a fellow self-confessed mostly awkward-feeling part-nerd, I love that your blog is about your style, but still REAL. You have inspired me so many times to try a new look I might not have dared otherwise - and feeling inspired, I am confident. Thank you for sharing you with us. We kind of love you.
ReplyDeleteOh Keiko, I love your blog, your style, etc- but I want you to know that right now, reading back on your posts about being in Florida and losing your horse are helping me get through losing my beloved Frodo. When I scream and cry in my car, I remember your story, and I don't feel so alone. I'm incredibly grateful for that.
ReplyDeleteYou look so beautiful here!! I love this dress you made, you are so talented. Thanks for being such a wonderful inspiration!

ReplyDeleteYOU are the best thing! I loooove this dress, it's so incredible!! As soon as I saw it I knew that it had to be a Postlapsaria! :)
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note though, you have the most wonderful way of talking about the ins and outs of style blogging.
More than other things I've done it does help me to come out of my cave and embrace the day. And just when I think it is serving me more for my own purposes, someone will tell me how something I posted got them inspired and got them to leave their funk. So that to me makes it all worth it.
And if anyone is inspiring people with their impeccable style and taste, it's you!!!
This post has actually inspired me to get off my ass and take a shower, despite the fact that I will probably just be lying around the house doing homework all day. I really like your blog, I'm glad I found it. Will follow!
ReplyDeleteyou look positively radiant/gorgeous in these photos. what an excellent dress. it's so cool you designed and created it yourself. well done
