some other spring

Outfit Details:
floral dress - gift from A.Y. Not Dead
50s cardigan - thrifted
tights - Target
MAC clutch - gift from Rebecca Minkoff
silk wrapped beads - from my mom's store, Hourglass Consignment
vintage costume rings - gifts from my mom (also from her store)
initial ring - gift from my step-grandma
Fioni fuchsia heels - gift from Payless
lipstick - MAC Girl About Town

I've already worn this dress a few times since I got it; it has been a definite pick-me-up for those not-so-Springish days we were experiencing. Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, I'm looking forward to wearing it with bare legs and strappy sandals - but first, I have to get over this ridiculous sickness! I am no longer going to claim that I'm on the up and up, because every time I say it, I end up feeling worse and setting myself back. I'm trying to rest but I have so much sewing to do. This is when my childhood ambition of being Snow White would really come in handy. Try as I may, I can't seem to get the woodland creatures - or even my own - to help me with anything.

Outfit Details:
green coat - Zara (about four years ago)
Pristine Premonition dress (currently out of stock) - courtesy of ModCloth
tights - Target
Hawk Wedges - courtesy of Seychelles (I'm hosting a party with Seychelles on the 11th and you're all invited...more on that later!)
MAC clutch - Rebecca Minkoff (from the bloglovin' awards)
lipstick - MAC Girl About Town

Though I'm finally starting to feel a little better today, don't be fooled by the pictures - these are from before I got sick. At the moment, I'm in pajamas, with a huge box of tissues at my side. Not looking cute. Just wanted to check in and let you know that I think I'm on the upswing (knock on wood). Thank you all for being patient with me!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Force

Last week, Mercedes-Benz invited me to join their Fashion Force in patrolling the streets of New York for people who stand out from the crowd. During fashion week, the Fashion Force focused on finding New York's most stylishly dressed, but in celebration of the Mercedes-Benz Concept A Class reveal the night before, we decided to focus on something a little more abstract. Instead of concentrating on clothing or conventional beauty, I simply went looking for head-turners in any form. It was an extraordinarily dreary Wednesday morning and the streets were oddly desolate, so it was a little more difficult than I thought, at first. As the day went on, people started to walk about and I found some really great subjects with their own unique beauty.

I jumped out of the car and literally chased Frances down a cobblestone street in the Meatpacking District, before realizing who it was. She was like, "Why is Keiko chasing me?!" but all I saw was her great wavy hair from behind and wanted to get a picture. When she turned around, I was relieved that it was Frances and hoped that she would a) let me get a picture and b) refrain from calling the police. Thank goodness, she obliged and no restraining orders were made.

Isabela is a young girl from Guatemala, on vacation with her family. I adored her sense of style, her sweet demeanor and those big doe eyes with her cropped hair.

Jennifer's hair and fantastic brows (I have a thing for brows) were what originally caught my attention, but it obviously doesn't hurt that she has a beautiful face.

I jumped out of the car in pursuit of a woman with a sleek ponytail and bright lipstick, but Annifer's awesome hair made me turn on my heels and follow her, instead!

Audrey has my dream beauty combo: dark hair, light eyes and freckles. And she's a pastry chef. That b****. Just kidding, she's the best - and happens to be one of my favorite bloggers. Read her blog!

This was quite a fun little job to take on, and we gained quite a bit of attention in the decked out Fashion Force car - it even had lights! A construction worker blocked our path to take a photograph, and I think a few of the people I approached thought I was going to give them a citation. Don't worry, we were only giving compliments (and invitations to the auto show) - no arrests were made!

Under the weather

I'm really sorry for the lack of posting - I've been really under the weather and bedridden. Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon, but in the meantime I'll try and post from my sickbed as soon as I get my laptop back from the apple store.

Outfit Details:
matryoshka doll necklace (only $12.50!)- courtesy of Anirtak
floral chiffon top - courtesy of Threadsence
vintage slip - probably from my mom
skirt - H&M
socks - HUE (I got them at TJ Maxx or Marshalls)
Dany shoes - courtesy of Jessica Simpson Collection
Lily diamond bag - courtesy of Ralston
bracelets and rings - all vintage, from my mom's store (Hourglass) and my grandpa's store (Hourglass II)
lipstick - MAC Unlimited pro longwear lipcreme

Katrina sent me this matryoshka doll necklace quite awhile ago, and though I wear it often - I never seem to photograph my outfits on those days. Bobby collects anything having to do with matryoshka dolls, including tattoos (and the actual objects themselves), so I knew he would get a kick out of this necklace. He even has this pepper mill.

As for myself, I'm a collector of everything panda. Ever since I was a wee little stinker, dragging Snowball everywhere I went, family and friends have defaulted on the panda present. I couldn't be more pleased. As it stands, I have panda purses, panda blankets, a panda lunch tote, panda mugs, a panda pushpin cushion, panda art, panda pajamas, panda jewelry, panda everything. Do you collect anything in particular?

Makeup Monday: Posen Inspired

A couple weeks ago, I held a vote on facebook, asking readers to weigh in on their favorite runway looks. I recreated the winner for a special [future] Makeup Monday, but liked all of the looks so much that I decided to recreate all of them. Last Makeup Monday, I paid homage to the bright lips all over the Spring runways. This week, I decided to do my own take on the beautiful aqua, blue and gold eyes at Zac Posen. Continue reading after the jump for step by step instructions.

My darling, what wonder have we wrought here?

Outfit Details:
Mink Pink sheer navy blouse - courtesy of Threadsence
vintage plaid shorts - Jet Rag
glasses - forever 21
Darling Tote - R&Em

(from the actual R&Em lookbook)

Last night was the premiere party for the lookbook I shot with R&Em, and while I wait for pictures from the event (and try to figure out why my USB ports aren't working), I thought I'd share a couple of photos from our shoot. As mentioned in my interview with Nylon, this lookbook was shot the same way I maintain my blog - with my Nikon D90 and a little remote. Bobby and Mara (from the R&Em team) were on hand for a lot of them, so some of them were also taken by Bobby.

I was happy to shoot the lookbook this way, because it's a more realistic portrayal of me: my apartment, my clothes, my makeup - and my animals even made appearances. I hate to use the terms "normal" or "real" when describing anyone, because I've yet to meet a model who was a figment of my imagination and no one really knows what normal means. What I want to say is that I'm grateful to have had so many great opportunities, even though I don't fit the standard model prerequisites: I'm only 5'7, have a healthy amount of meat on my bones and let's face it, I can barely even walk without tripping over my own feet (thanks, pigeon toes).  Experiences like this never cease to thrill me, because I never dreamed I would get to do such things. Thank you to R&Em for giving me such a fun opportunity, and to all of you for your continued support. No one would give a crap about me or my blog if I didn't have such amazing readers - and I really do think you are the best.

Birthday Bop

Outfit Details:
Fabulous Voyage cardigan - courtesy of ModCloth
pink accordion pleat dress (worn as top) - H&M
skirt - thrifted
tights - courtesy of HUE
navy heels - courtesy of Seychelles
belt - thrifted

(my outfit matched one of my grandma's bathrooms)

Roxy and Tessa, two of my favorite girls in the world.

The Bobby and little Roxy Mae, who helped him blow out the candles and smeared icing on his nose.

The bashful birthday boy.

Bobby and I are a whopping six months apart, with me on the older end of the spectrum. While were in Florida, he finally caught up with my ancient age of 26 and my family was there to celebrate the occasion with us. They surprised him with balloons and gifts, which Roxy was eager to help with, and we had a modest birthday celebration with pizza and cake. Considering Bobby and I have long histories of really bummer-ish birthdays, it was beyond expectations and such a perfect way to celebrate. You can tell by his smile, can't you? Well, to be fair, he is always smiling. But still, it was a great evening. All you need are the people you love - and dessert.

You should always have dessert. That's a must.
