Ardell Fashion Lashes
Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer
Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush in Rose
True story: I went to CVS at midnight last night, so I could try out this tinted moisturizer. A couple of readers asked for a recommendation for tinted moisturizer they could get at the drug store, and since I have none in my kit and hate making recommendations without personal experience, I went and checked it out.
I love tinted moisturizers, especially in the summer. I most often use Laura Mercier - which I love - but it is very pricey (over $40). This one (by Physicians Formula) was on sale for just over $11. While very different from my usual TM (that's what we call it on the streets), I like it quite a bit. It has SPF 50 and is oil, fragrance and paraben free. It's also non comedogenic, which is something I look for (even though it's kind of a broad term that doesn't always have to deliver). While I can't attest to its sun protection as of yet, here are the pros: it's not greasy at all, blends really well and feels lightweight. The con: it comes in very few shades. It also isn't moisturizing enough on its own for me, so I still used moisturizer underneath - but I also do that with my Laura Mercier. Also keep in mind that tinted moisturizers won't provide much coverage - they just even out your complexion. Any problem spots will require concealer. Final verdict: for around $11, it's a really great buy.
While at the store, I also picked up some fun, full lashes (since I have really sad, little lashes), a shimmery blush, a Revlon lipstain that my little sister's friend convinced me to try (I love it), some eyeliners and a whole bunch of other stuff (lipsticks, bobby pins, dry shampoo, sugar-free Redbull for my friend who was catching a red-eye). "Research for the CVS Beauty Club," I told myself. Research.
To justify my purchases, I made this look entirely from drug-store products (save for my brows). I even did a hair tutorial with the bobby pins and dry shampoo I picked up, which I will be posting tomorrow! Money well spent.
Please don't forget to check out the CVS Beauty Board facebook tab and let Mickey, Nichelle and me know if you have any beauty related questions or need product suggestions!

Full disclosure: I am a paid spokesperson of CVS/pharmacy Beauty Club Beauty Board.

ReplyDeletePretty! And thanks for the recommendation.
ReplyDeleteYour lip color is total eye candy, and I will definitely have to try out the tinted moisturizer with the SPF.

ReplyDeleteLove your lipstick color!

Thanks, guys!
ReplyDeleteJamie: I did a tutorial for this hairstyle and will post tomorrow:)
Emma: It's surprisingly bright. I also like NYC lip stains, which are even cheaper...but the Revlon ones have balm on the other end that are really nice.
That lip stain is super pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! The lip colour is divine.
ReplyDeletealways shopping around for the perfect summer blush, love that one, but you have an ivory tone, myself a bit more olive.... may give the brand a whirl though.

I had no idea how pink that lipstain was! I got the Just Bitten in a berry red, but I like your shade way more! I think I'm going to buy myself one :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty look, I love it!

Rachel: I was expecting it to be more like the container color (and kind of hoped for that) but it's way more pink than I thought. I actually like it, but definitely don't go by the container colors - not even close!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I'm glad you talked about the lip stain, I've been wanting to get one too but I wasn't sure which to get. I'll definitely try the Revlon, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this look and am a huge fan of false eyelashes, you can defiantly pull them off!

Erika: Just make sure you exfoliate and moisturizer your lips before using a lip stain (blot any balm off before applying, though). If you don't, you'll end up with blotchy lips. I love lip stains, though!
ReplyDeletelove this summer lovin look!
ReplyDeleteYou are so gorgeous! Love the clean summer look it gives :)

ReplyDeleteYou look so pretty and natural. I will try this with my drugstore products!
ReplyDeleteI always have a problem with going to the drugstore for just one thing - I always end up going home with more than I intended, haha. Especially nailpolish.

after being inspired by your lip color, i went out and bought that same lip stain (different shade. i was super disappointed when i went to reapply the balm after dinner and it broke. i am a chap stick kinda girl, so paying $10 for bright lip stuff is way out of my comfort zone and budget. any suggestions on a balm i can use in its place?
ReplyDeleteThat hairstyle is beautiful! I'll be hanging out for the tutorial tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteyou're absolutely stunning <3

ReplyDeleteA Girl's Next Best Friend
I was literally JUST at the store today eyeing up the lip stain. I didn't make the plunge but now you have me reconsidering. How long did it last? I want something that'll stay but that won't make my lips dry or chapped looking.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous gorgeous makeup and hair! Great blog post!
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning! Thanks for the CVS suggestions! I love this partnership you have with them!
ReplyDeleteLidi @ Eclectic Flair
I love reading your makeup posts...they give me so much inspiration. Thankyou!!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth: It definitely needs a redesign. I don't like how you can't retract the balm. You can really use any lip balm over it. This one, as far as I know, is just a regular balm. I don't *think* the formula is anything special and I wore burt's bees over it today and it didn't break down the stain. Plus, Burt's Bees = way more awesome than regular balm;)
ReplyDeleteJessica:
ReplyDeleteThat's more of a quick, every day method but you also need to do some exfoliating a couple times a week. Use a soft toothbrush and vaseline and gently buff in circular motions.
Can't wait for the hair tutorial!!!
ReplyDeleteSweet Glow Beauty: With lipsticks, I tend to go for matte or creamy finishes, instead of glosses or frosts - they tend to stay longer. That doesn't mean there aren't long lasting lipsticks in other finishes (there are) but you don't know until you actually wear and test them. Stains are kind of tricky, because you'd think they would stay longer but they really do need to be reapplied throughout the day - there's no getting around it.
ReplyDeleteLining your lips and filling them in before using lip color also helps color stay in place!
Elise: I will try, but it will be awkward. Haha! I still haven't fully mastered it to the point where I put them on in one full swoop. The most important things are to measure them against your lashes (I always end up cutting off a little bit from the ends), let the glue sit and get tacky on the strip before putting them on and look down into a mirror (don't tilt your head all the way down - *look* down with your eyes). It's the best perspective for putting on lashes. Oh, and always line before AND after putting on lashes, so you don't have that weird gap if it's not exactly with your lashes. The second line is to make it look seamless.
ReplyDeleteRosyRilli: It stays put until you eat, and then it fades right in the middle (at least, for me). I experience this with all marker stains, so I recommend carrying it with you to reapply when necessary or using a tinted lip color over it.
ReplyDeleteMom: I'm so glad you identified yourself, because I would have never known it was you (the full name didn't give it away). Just kidding;) Miss you and love you, too!
ReplyDeleteHi, if you see this, would you mind explaining how you style your hair that way, with the braid that goes across. i love it! you have a gorgeous blog and you're incredibly beautiful! so envious, nah, i'm alright...but yes, a little envious...doo doo doo
ReplyDeletethanks!
Hi, what number did you use for the Ardell lashes? They look so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI bought two of those lip stains a few months ago and agree, do not go by container colour.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the hair tutorial. My hair is in need of a trim but until then...I need ideas. Thanks Keiko
Oh and the stain fades on me as well.
ReplyDeleteSo Eliot (Coackblkrwomen) and I were talking. You NEED to do tutorial videos stat. Seriously girl, not only is your face flawless but your application of makeup is so effortless that all I want to do is learn how you apply (on video, of course). Do it, do it, do it. I know Eliot will back me up on this chant. (lol)

That was a very NOBLE thing you did there. And all for research! :-) That's what I'll do, too... I really need to do something for my skin. I usually don't have to put anything on my face, other than my glominerals face powder, which has zinc in it, and so protects me very well from the sun. However, I've recently gotten pigment darkening above my lip... looks like I have a mustache made of freckles! Ugh! Do you know of anything that might help that? I'm half Chinese, and half Finnish/German/Irish/English, so my skin tans, but I still get freckles. I hope you have some advice for me. Your skin is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou are so beautiful! I love these photographs, and the color lipstick you're wearing.
ReplyDeleteI love your glasses that I've seen in other posts, but I also love the no-glasses look once and while too, it feels very fresh!
Stay cool!

oh my, looks lovely!!
ReplyDeletehow do you get the lip stain to go on evenly? i find mine always ends up blotchy :(
Hello! So maybe I'm a dummy, but I just can't find what you use/how you do your liquid liner... I just love how you do your "everyday" makeup... The simple winged liner. Try as I may, mine never looks as flawless. Help?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
you are insanely beautiful! and your makeup posts are amazing, will definitely be copying some!
ReplyDeletehttp://fluentbeauty.blogspot.com/
Thanks for the lip stain recommendation! I tried it today for a wedding and loved it! I don't like regular lipsticks, because they are stick or I lick/eat/drink them off. This was perfect. One note though. I had some dry spots on my lips and the stain took to those spots darker. Keep your lips in shape ladies!
ReplyDeleteLove this look, very pretty. I might grab some of that TM.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the Physicians Formula Happy Booster blush. Did you like it? How was the consistency/texture? Did it boost your mood? I appreciate the SPF foundation review. I've been looking for a good multitasker for the summer.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of sad lashes... I have the saddest of them all: stubby, straight, and not an overly large amount of them. :( Do you normally use the Revlon mascara? I've tried allll kinds from drug store to dept store varieties, but can't decide on THE one. xoxo, Angela
