Makeup Monday: Gold Rush Mani

Deborah Lippmann "Fake It 'Til You Make It" and "Glitter and Be Gay" nail lacquers. Gold ring is vintage, and the other ring and cuff are Sorrelli.

I love statement nails, but don't always have the time or patience for nail art. The compromise? Glitter! I prefer my nails to be pretty opaque, so I started with a shimmery, gold metallic (Deborah Lippmann "Fake It 'Til You Make It") and then layered it with a coat of vibrant, gold glitter polish (Deborah Lippmann "Glitter and Be Gay"). Pictures don't do the nails justice; the result is what I can only describe as party nails. Now, the only thing I'm dreading is removing the glitter. I always have a hard time getting it off my nails without a struggle and end up chipping it away (destroying my nails in the process). If anyone has some glitter polish removing tricks, please let me know!

  2. I'm not a big fan of bright colours (always wear only black!) but this is too awesome I would wear it too!

  3. if you're having trouble removing glitter polishes, try looking up the foil method of removal...it really helps! or you can use a peel-off base coat or even elmer's/school glue as your base coat, which allows you to just peel the polish off and doesn't damage your nails (my personal favorite, although your manicure won't last as long as it would with a regular base coat). target also has a new remover called the dip it which i've heard is really helpful. hope this helps!

  6. Intense, but in a good way. For glitter I just hold a cotton ball soaked with polish remover on each nail for a long time to soften everything. It usually comes off easier.

  8. using 100% acetone remover helps tremendously with the foil method, though it leaves the skin around your nails very dry :(

  11. soak cotton balls in acetone, apply to fingers, wrap with tin foil. remove after 5 minutes, easy as pie!

  12. I soak my hands in warm water before I try to remove the polish, and then I slather my hands around the nail in lotion or vaseline and then soak a cotton ball in acetone (the only time I use it) lay it on the nail and wrap foil around it for 10 minutes or so.

The polish comes right off that way.

  13. Next time you do glitter polish, put a coat of PVA glue as a base coat. It makes it loads easier to get off later.

  14. I'm in love with this gold glitter! Thanks for sharing... Oh, and I second the acetone recommendations for removal. I usually swipe on some Vaseline or cuticle oil and then put acetone soaked cotton ball pieces on the nails and the wrap some foil to hold it there for a bit. Good luck! :)

  16. apply a square of cotton pad or a piece of cotton ball soaked in polish remover to your nail and then wrap with aluminium foil. Leave for a few mins (about 5) then pull off firmly towards the tip of the nail taking the cotton and glitter off with the foil! I always use this technique for glitter!
