Best of Black Friday

I don't think I have ever stepped foot in a store on Black Friday; the closest I came was when I worked in the mall, and was scheduled to sell delicious pretzels to the frazzled shoppers. The lines, the hysteria - oh, the humanity! But despite the immediate anxiety I experience when even thinking of going shopping today, that doesn't mean I don't partake in the sales. Now that everything is available online, that's where I do a great deal of my shopping. Since I travel to Florida every Christmas, it just makes more sense to have everything delivered to my sister's house, rather than schlep it in multiple suitcases. Here's a list of Black Friday online sales and codes that are currently on my radar.

50% off everything at Lookmatic with code FIFTYOFF (bringing them down to less than $50 with free shipping). The frames I'm wearing are the Payton.

30% off at J.Crew with code HOLIDAY

50% off sale at ModCloth (no code needed). Particularly crazy about this hot air balloon sweater.

20% off Glossybox orders with code THANKS20 - this is the best beauty subscription box (I'm a subscriber) and would make a perfect gift!

Use code BIGEVENT13 at Shopbop for 15% off $250, 20% off $500, and 25% off $1000.

20% off everything, today only, at Anthropologie.

30% off sitewide, today only, on Threadsence, plus items up to 70% off.

30% off Emerging Thoughts orders over $75 with code Slack Friday.

Amazing ten dollar sale at Sephora.

25% off everything at Madewell with code FEAST25

20% off everything at ASOS with code GIMME20.

Up to 75% off at Kate Spade, today and tomorrow.

25% off everything at Alice and Olivia.

40% off everything black at Nastygal.

30% off sitewide at Kate Somerville with code HOLIDAY2013. Exfolikate is one of my favorite skincare products.

30% off everything at home goods store Lulu and Georgia with code THANKS30

Please, feel free to add some suggestions in the comments - I would appreciate it! Especially any furniture companies...Helena and I are shopping around for a sofa for our new space.

Tech Accessories

Outfit Details:
Minkpink dress
vintage denim jacket
Quay "Kitti" sunglasses
Kenneth Cole laptop clutch (old)
Coach pave bangle, Forever 21 bangle, handmade ring from Artists + Fleas, Beso Beso ring (both old).
CFDA MILLY By Michelle Smith USB bracelet (seen in my Accessories Collection)
My CFDA USB bracelet, the latest addition to my accessories stack, is a lot more functional than its strictly shiny counterparts. As someone who might as well be physically attached to her camera and phone, I'm not really sure why I haven't already fashioned a weird, makeshift belt or a hair tie out of my USB cable (which is always, always missing when I need it). But with people like me in mind, the CFDA took a more fashionable approach and collaborated with five different designers (Rachel Zoe, MILLY by Michelle Smith, Mara Hoffman, Michael Bastian, and Shipley + Halmos) to create limited edition USB tech bracelets. I can use it to transfer photographs from my camera, or use the included adapters for my phone or iPad. They're currently for sale in the eBay Holiday Collective for $25, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the CFDA, so if you're looking for a gift for any of your tech-savvy friends, be sure to check them out!

Big Pimpin'

Outfit Details:
Hat Attack hat (old)
Family Affairs "Rue St. Vincent" coat from Emerging Thoughts
Ann Taylor blouse (40% off everything with take40 and extra 50% of sale) - see more of my favorite black and white options on my Westfield Style article
Family Affairs skirt (old - here's the new version)
Alberto Fermani boots (old, c/o)
Coach Legacy Haley Satchel
Tom Ford Nikita sunglasses (c/o)

When I was in high school, I went through a phase where all I wanted to wear was my "pimp coat" - a large, furry monster of a jacket that could have doubled as some sort of faux taxidermy. I was smitten with one I saw at the mall, and even though it was at the opposite end of Auntie Anne's - where I made pretzels to make that money - I would often find myself wandering by the store to see if the price dropped. It never did, and my $5.15 an hour meant endless four hour shifts in order to save for that coat. Eventually, my grandma got it for me as a Christmas gift and procured her title of winningest grandma. She still likes to occasionally reminisce about the time she got me a "pimp coat," and it is with her in mind that I wear this updated, feminine version of the original. It's not as large, not as heavy, and it doesn't smell of cinnamon sugar pretzels. But it will do. Oh, it will do.

Ariat Boots Giveaway!

Outfit Details:
Juicy Couture coat (old)
Topshop leopard dress
Zara scarf (old)
Coach Legacy Duffle
Ariat "York" boots (c/o)
lipstick - Melt Cosmetics "Belladonna 2"

My mom worked several jobs to make ends meet, when my sisters and I were growing up. As a single mother with three daughters, holidays were especially tough - she never wanted us to be without. I remember her taking on yet another job at Grifs, our local Western store, so she could put the best gifts under our tree. She used her employee discount (and all of her earnings from those extra hours she worked) to get us all matching tooled belts, horse themed jewelry boxes, halters, and riding boots. It was such a huge deal to us. To me, there was nothing cooler than a pair of jeans and some riding boots. I was always that girl in the horse shirt, if you didn't already guess that.

With all of that in mind, it makes sense that my family was extremely excited for me to collaborate with Ariat. They kept asking when I would be posting my outfit. We're horse people, so getting a pair of Ariat boots is pretty exciting! Well, I'm not wearing jeans and I'm clearly not on my horse (he's in Florida), but hopefully this look passed their test. Don't think I didn't contemplate wearing one of my horse shirts - the thought crossed my mind. You can take a girl off the ranch, but you'll never ever ever take her horse shirts…or her boots, for that matter! Which brings me to the best part of the post. With the holidays coming up, I'm happy to share yet another amazing giveaway with you all.

Ariat is generously offering a pair of boots for one of my lucky readers. To enter, simply fill out the form below, letting me know which pair of boots you want and how you'd style them for fall. Contest ends 11/27, winner will be chosen at random. Winner can select any pair of boots, excluding the Monaco and Exotics collection.

Vintage Jumper

Outfit Details:
H&M hat (old)
Vintage collared dress
Vintage jumper
Stuart Weitzman Highland boots (c/o)
LULU by Lulu Guinness bow cross body

Take one peek at my closet (or my apartment, for that matter) and you'll immediately know how much I love vintage. Since vintage can be a little pricey in New York - save for a few shops I frequent - I do a lot of my shopping online or when I'm traveling. I found this dress and jumper duo while in California, along with enough clothing, hats, and random odds and ends to put my suitcase over the weight limit. Oops! I also spend some of my insomniac nights online, window shopping. I did just that, last night - and created a new vintage collection  as a part of my eBay collections. I'm especially in love with this perfect little dress - it's not my size, unfortunately, but hopefully it goes to a good home!

p.s. My collections were curated in collaboration with eBay. #followitfindit

Autumn Days, Winter Nights.

Outfit Details:
vintage hat
Corey bumblebee shirt
d.Ra "Russel" sweater (c/o)
thrifted belt
Patterson J Kincaid leather skirt (from last year - similar one here)
Karen London rose gold ring, Sorrelli pyramid ring, Beso Beso hammered ring.
Coach beveled pave bangle, Tory Burch wrap, Forever 21 gold/black bangle.
Stuart Weitzman "Highland" boot (c/o - also available in black)
drugstore tights
Kate Spade bag
  Fossil watch (c/o)

It's a shame that autumn is so fickle and fleeting, because it just might be my favorite time of year. There's something really spectacular about sweater and boot weather - the kind that doesn't yet require a coat or a heavy scarf. I'd rather stack on the accessories than swathe myself in bulky layers. I'm actually pretty fond of layering, too, just not in the "do it or you'll freeze to death" kind of way. Fossil sent me this gorgeous watch just in the nick of time (pun completely intended), and I took the opportunity to stack my arm with all of the accessories that will soon be hidden beneath my myriad sleeves. The weather has been back and forth, lately, so I'm not giving up on fall, just yet - but I am preparing myself for the cold, cold winter. I'm not big on bone chilling winds, but give me a hot cocoa and some festive lights and I'll be just fine.

p.s. Happy 18th birthday, Tessa Marie! I can't believe you're an adult, now - where did the time go? (and now I'm tearing up)

Makeup Monday: Urban Decay Naked 3 Tutorial

If you've been following me on instagram (or Gloss Daily), you already know how excited I am for Urban Decay's latest Naked installment: the Naked 3 Palette! Why am I excited, when there are already two great palettes in the collection? Because this one is perfectly suited for my cool, pale coloring. While I love the first two palettes (and continue to use them), many of their shades look best on warmer tones. This one, which consists of an array of rosy hued neutrals, isn't too cool or too warm that I would definitively label it as either one, but it's definitely the palette I was waiting for. Do you need all three? Of course not, but this one is different enough from the first two that I recommend checking it out. If you like a hint of pink or rose gold in your neutrals, this is the palette for you.
They haven't given an exact release date yet, but I know it will be out very soon. I couldn't wait, so I put together a quick tutorial of the first look I tried with the palette: a rosy, smokey eye. Keep reading for product details and step by step instructions on how to recreate this look.

Products used: Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in "Perversion", Too Faced "Better Than Sex" Mascara, Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette (out soon!)
Lipstick: Bobbi Brown creamy matte lip color in "True Pink"

Shades used: Blackheart (lid, lower lashline), Burnout (inner/crease), Nooner (outer crease)

1) Apply primer all over lid and lower lashline.

2) Using a fairly heavy hand, line upper and lower lashline. I also like to line my waterline for a little more smolder.

3) Smudge the liner to diffuse any harsh lines. I smudged my top line up and out, which is the shape I prefer for my eyes.

4) Pick up "Blackheart" and tap off excess. Pack on, over existing pencil (on lid and lower lashline). Packing it on instead of swiping it on will give more concentrated color.

5) Using a fluffy brush, blend up and out. Blend the lower lashline, as well, using sweeping motions.

6) Sweep "Burnout" on/above inner crease.

7) Apply "Nooner" on/above outer crease.

8) Blend, blend, blend!

9) Finish with mascara.

10) Done!

Design Partnership: Modus Man

I'm so excited to announce my design partnership with Modus Man! In the past, I've only had experience with womenswear, so I jumped at the opportunity to learn more about the process of creating the perfect men's shirt. Stanley and Reginald, the brothers behind the business, were the ultimate mentors; they have enough passion to fill the entire city. Hailing from Haiti, they came to Miami with nothing but a mutual dream of owning a clothing company that catered to men who wanted more than just ordinary shirts. Together, they worked around the clock to make it a reality, and now they're living in New York City, with their own line of unique, tailored men's shirts. From penniless to successful business owners - talk about the embodiment of the American Dream!

In the coming weeks, I'll be able to share more about our design (I collaborated with Bobby, of course!) and the process surrounding it, but in the meantime, I wanted to give you a little peek behind the scenes. I can't wait to get my hands on the final product - I'm so excited to share it with everyone!

Fall Capes and a Happy Pup

Outfit Details:
Hat Attack hat - Free People
vintage cape - Dronning Vintage
Darling dress (as seen here)
Coach legacy duffle
Dolce Vita Pumps
last photo: Hunter color block boots

As you can probably guess by the look on her face, there's nothing Miku loves more than a trip to the country. She may look like a little princess (and she is), but she's actually quite the little goofball and often a total tomboy. I guess she's a lot like me in that way; we both love to get dressed up, but we also love to explore the outdoors and get our paws/feet dirty. Don't be fooled by the heels: I wore my boots almost all weekend. It's easier to run around with Miku, that way.

p.s. Don't forget: I'm hosting a clothing swap party with Swapdom, tomorrow from 6-9 pm! Free drinks and eats and lots of cute clothes. Details and RSVP info here.

BTS with American Manhasset + $500 giveaway!

One of my favorite perks of this blog is the opportunity to tag along and document behind the scenes, whether it's backstage at fashion week or on the set of a photo shoot. I've had the chance to meet and work with some of my favorite models, incredible makeup artists and hair stylists, photographers, and designers. Getting to pull back the curtain and see how much work goes into capturing a single photograph has given me, as a consumer, much more appreciation for the entire production. Over the summer (on one of the hottest days of the year), I had the ultimate honor of partnering with Americana Manhasset and joining them on the set of their Holiday 2013 Lookbook, featuring Lindsey Wixson and RJ King and photographed, styled, and produced by Laspata/DeCaro. We started our day bright and early on the boardwalk of Coney Island, which was chosen (along with the Rockaways and Catalina Beach Club of Atlantic Beach) to showcase the resilience of some of New York's hardest hit areas from last year's storm. Less then one year later (at the time of the shoot), the boardwalks were bustling, rides were up and running, and the Rockaways were once again a summer destination. We still have a long way to go, but it's well on its way!

If you follow me on instagram, you may have already seen some teasers. But now that it's launched, I can finally share a few of my favorite shots from behind the scenes. You all know I love a Coney Island day, in all its campy glory. But while we were all melting in the intense heat - frozen lemonades helped a little -  Lindsey was a total champ. With myriad outfit, hair, makeup, and location changes, I never heard one complaint from her - and she was sick with a bad cold! Talk about a true professional. Or maybe she was already in the holiday spirit, despite the heat?
And speaking of the holiday spirit: in celebration of their beautiful new lookbook,  Americana Manhasset is giving one of my lucky readers a $500 gift card to spend as they wish. With over 60 shops to choose from, that leaves a lot of room for holiday shopping! I recently took a tour and did a little shopping there, and believe me: you want to win this. It's the ultimate shopping experience! Here's how to enter:

To enter, simply check out the Americana Manhasset Holiday 2013 Lookbook and comment below with your favorite look from the shoot!

Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, 11/19 at 9PM EST. I will select a winner at random. Good luck!
*Before entering, please note that the gift card is only valid at Americana Manhasset's physical location (Long Island, New York)

The winner is Dresden Parker. Thank you for entering!

Misery

Outfit Details:
J.Crew shirt (25% off $100+ purchase with code GOSHOP)
thrifted dress
HUE socks (c/o)
Joie Mabel Bucket Bag (c/o)
old Sole Society platforms
Bonlook "Urban Dandy" glasses

I wasn't originally going to post these, since I look absolutely miserable, but the more I looked at them, the more I had to laugh at myself. If you've been following along for awhile, you probably know that I'm a longtime insomniac (since I was a child). I've been on and off, in the last few years - I'll have good nights and really, really bad ones. On this particular day, I was not only under the weather, but hadn't slept in almost 48 hours. While I could do that with ease when I was in college, I can't handle that anymore. I don't know why I decided I should still try and be a functioning human being at this point, but I did - and failed. Look at that frown! After about two minutes or less of trying to take some pictures, I dramatically slumped my shoulders and cried, "I'm. so. tired!" and immediately fell asleep on the car ride home. And this, my friends, is why insomnia is the absolute worst. It makes you act like a five year old child, and it also gives you puffy under eye circles.
