Makeup Monday: Kat Von D Chrysalis Tutorial

As a lover of tattoos and makeup, it only seems natural to gravitate toward Kat Von D’s makeup line at Sephora. I’ve been wearing her lip products for a long time - my collection of Everlasting Love Liquid Lipsticks and Studded Kiss lipsticks is always growing, because as I’ve mentioned before, I can’t walk into Sephora without buying all of the things. It wasn’t until recently, however, that I picked up this gorgeous palette and decided to give it a shot - and since I was already in the store (and am a compulsive lipstick buyer), I picked up a couple of new lipsticks, for Fall: Wolvesmouth (pictured) and Motorhead (dark cherry). In case you’re curious, I already have Lovecraft (amazing pink nude), Adora (metallic red - my fave), Sexer (hot pink), and Lullabye (glittery magenta). Anyway, let’s get to the shadows! I picked the Chrysalis palette because it works best with my skin tone, but if you want warmer tones, the Monarch palette is also worth checking out. I’ll be using the Chrysalis palette for this tutorial, with five shadows in the order they’re marked. Follow the steps, below, to recreate this look!

Products we'll be using: Kat Von D Chrysalis palette (only the shadows marked), Urban Decay "Black Velvet" 24/7 liner, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in "Wolvesmouth".

Step one: When I’m going for drama, I like to apply my shadows wet. It makes them ultra vibrant and opaque. Dampen your brush and apply “Melancholia" on the inner parts of your lid. Make sure to start with primed eyes, by the way!

Step two: Rinse your brush and apply "Graphic Nature” to the center of your lid.

Step three: Rinse again, then fill the outer lid with “Tornay” shadow.

Step four: Using a new, dry brush (a small, fluffy one is ideal), sweep “Lunar Lights” back and forth in the crease, blending the outer edges.

Step five: Line your lower lashline with "Black Velvet" liner.

Step six: Go over that line with “Entombed” - make sure it’s a little smudged, and not too harsh of a line.

Step seven: Line your upper lashline with “Tattoo Liner” and finish with mascara. Refer to this tutorial if you need help with the liner!

That’s it! I paired it with “Wolvesmouth” metallic berry lipstick for extra drama, but when I went out for the day, I switched to “Lovecraft” to balance out the smokey eyes. Anything goes, as far as I’m concerned - just have fun with it!

  18. Beautiful! I feel so inspired to change up my makeup routine to try these fun looks out.

I recently read on another blog that the Kat Von D lipstick is kiss-proof. Is that true? I love wearing a bold lip but I don't like kissing my partner and then looking at myself in the mirror afterwards because I have an unflattering ring of smudged lipstick all over my mouth, under my nose, and chin (i.e I kind of look like a clown). So I was wondering if this lipsticks stays put/kiss-proof?
