Winter Wear: Neutral Coats

(photos by Claudia)

Outfit Details:
Topshop hat (always, because they're the warmest hats, ever) - not online anymore, but might still be in stores
Trina Turk "Nancy" coat (majorly on sale)
Zara romper
old Sperry Top Sider boots

During the winter, I usually settle into a routine of basing my outfits around whatever coat I want to wear - which is why I have a lot of coats. They take up a lot of space in my closet, but keep my wardrobe a little more interesting. After all, I have no intention of taking off any outer layers when it's that cold, so I might as well make the coats the main event. This led me to collecting a lot of statement outerwear (a few examples here, here, and here), but I finally started introducing some neutrals.

  1. I tend to think in the same way as you do. I've got a few winter coats, and they're usually the starting point when planning the whole outfit. But yea they can take up a lot of space - just wish I had a bigger closet!

  4. The space issue for coats is such a problem... I've got so many on hooks lining my hallway that you have to squeeze past them to get into my house these days! I love the colour of your coat here - I'd definitely snap one up (and try to force it onto a hook) if I saw similar. It's definitely a more unusual neutral than the standard beige... CC x

  15. I have a ridiculous coat/jacket collection. Unfortunately it rarely gets cold enough to wear them. Yet I still keep buying more... haha

  16. You do have such a great winter coat collection - puts mine to shame! And I absolutely love this look with the neutral tones. I adore brown, but it's not often seen during this time of year.

  18. I tried this on at Nordstrom during the holidays but passed it up because it was $400+. Thanks for sharing about the sale. I've been wanting a "teddy" coat since forever and this is really lovely.

  21. Hey Keiko,

Do you mind telling me what size of that coat you're wearing? I ordered a 4, but then looked at the reviews afterwards and I am worried it will be too large. Thanks!
